Do you know where your boat is? We expect our boats/yachts to be at the marina waiting for our return and the majority of the time, thankfully they are, however, many of us do not visit our boat daily to make sure that it is still there.

TITAN Viewer: Marine Secure has been specifically designed to give owners warning of an unauthorized departure of their boat/yacht.

Boat theft is on the rise. According to BoatU.S. Magazine, the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) stated that there are approximately 10,000 boat thefts a year. The IAMI and Allstate Insurance agree to this number for vessels stolen while in the water. BoatU.S. Magazine goes on to state that Karlton Kilby, the president of IAMI (International Association of Marine Investigators), believes the chances an average persons boat will be stolen are one in ten.

How does it work?

When the registered boat, equipped with an AIS transceiver, crosses the invisible zone guard around the home marina and alarm will trigger TITAN Viewer: Marine Secure to send the chosen SMS text and/or email notification of departure. The text/email would read:

"Your vessel is departing ABC Marina. Enjoy your trip! If this is an unauthorized voyage, please contact your local police at 555-555-5555"

Frequently Asked Questions

1) I received a text that my boat departed and it was unauthorized... Now what?

Included in the text message is the phone number to the local authorities responsible for stolen boats in your region. Because your boat is equipped with an AIS transponder, authorities will be able to monitor where your vessel goes and intercept it recovering your boat and apprehending the thief!

2) What if the thief turns off the transponder before leaving the marina?

Our system knows when an AIS transponder which was just on gets turned off (within 10 minutes). If your AIS is compromised, you will receive an SMS and/or email stating:

"Your vessels AIS transponder has been switched off or has been compromised."

3) What are the Statistics on boat theft?

The National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) reported the following watercraft statistics on their website www.nicb.org:

"Watercraft theft and recovery data reported to the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) for the period January 1, 2006 through March 31, 2009 was reviewed for all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

Overall, there were 19,854 reported watercraft thefts during the period... Of the total reported thefts for the period, 9,060 were recovered which translates to 45.63 percent.

The top five states for thefts in descending order are Florida, California, Texas, Michigan and North Carolina while the top five for recoveries are Florida, California, Texas, Washington and Michigan.

A value was determined for only 334 of the total thefts (NCIC does not require a value) and that amounted to more than $5.2 million with the most expensive single loss valued at $600,000. The average value of these 334 watercraft was $15,615."
